Students will study the fundamentals of the entire automobile, including disassembly and overhaul techniques with emphasis on troubleshooting. Automobile operation, servicing, and repair will all be covered.



Auto Tech I

Grade: 10, 11, 12 All year
1 Credit/Semester 2 hours / day

During the first year, auto tech students are introduced to the automobile engine and related components. First Year Instruction includes engine repair, charging systems, ignition systems, starting systems, general repair and hand tools, and accessory circuits.

Auto Tech II

Grade: 11, 12 All year
1 Credit/Semester 2 hours / day

Auto Tech II continues where Auto Tech I left off. Second Year Instruction includes brakes, suspension and chassis, drive trains, heating and air conditioning, front wheel drive axles, fuel injection systems, computer systems, and fuel systems. After completing two years of automotive technology the student will receive a certificate verifying 720 hours of career and technical training.

Objectives

The student will:

Develop safety habits around automobiles and equipment.
Learn the operating, construction, and principles behind today's automotive engine.
Disassemble and assemble an automotive engine and learn overhaul techniques.
Develop the use of precision measuring instruments and up-to-date diagnostic equipment.
Develop skill in understanding and using diagnostic service and shop manuals with emphasis on problem solving techniques.
